More and more, I'm getting the impression that furniture + black implies that the design has to be one of stark would-be futuristic designs. Sometimes they get slightly funky, but for the most part they're pretty unexciting.

This table's like that for me. It has no oomph. But if you've got a den that's dominated by, let's say, a seven-feet-tall cave bear skeleton, then maybe you want everything else to be low-key.
